THE DANTE ALIGHIERI SOCIETY WELCOMES EVERYONE TO THE FESTA DI NATALE PER I BAMBINI Saturday, December 3 rd , 2011 We will be celebrating Natale again this year, come rain or snow or shine, at our Headquarters House on Beacon Hill for the enjoyment of all our children and those young at heart as well! We look forward to seeing La Befana re –create her role and to tasting the delicious pizzelle – a favorite Natale tradition. The story of the presepio will be told again, and this year we are bringing a new Gesu Bambino figure to the presepio from Castrovillari, Calabria! Yes, the original figure broke many years ago and we were finally able to find a suitable replacement while on a CAI hiking trip in Italy! Of course our wonderful friends at Tutta Bella will be providing the delicious pizza (and much more) for everyone and Befana will be bringing the gift bags for all the children. The craft a

Italian-Speaking Testing for Welocalize

I'm a Recruitment Specialist with Welocalize, a translation and localization company with an office in Seattle. I found the Italian Club of Seattle website while searching online for Italian speakers in Seattle and was interested in contacting you because we are currently seeking native Italian speakers in the Seattle area to do QA testing projects with us. Quality Assurance (QA) testing includes, but is not limited to, the process of executing a program or application with the intent of finding software bugs (errors, flaws, mistakes, failures or faults in a computer program or system). It also includes testing for mistakes/errors in translation.   This is an independent contractor position where the tester would be assigned to projects as they come depending on your availability. We have regular short-term QA testing projects on-site at our software client's facility in Redmond, WA.   We have two short projects starting this Friday and next Monday respectively for which we nee

Aaron Caruso in Concert

Image
Perhaps you'll remember Aaron Caruso, an Italian-American tenor from New York who performed at the Italian Festival in 2007 and was warmly received. In a couple weeks he'll be performing fairly close by in historic Port Ludlow. The drive and ferry ride are extremely scenic so you may want to make a weekend of it.    If you're ever thought about checking out Port Ludlow, you might want to consider coming across the Sound (via the Edmonds-Kingston ferry, Seattle-Bainbridge ferry or Narrows Bridge) to the Bay Club on Saturday night October 22, to hear Italian-American tenor Aaron Caruso. He will showcase the beauty and power of an operatic-trained voice singing marvelous Italian songs ranging from "Con Te Partiro," popularized of course by Luciano Pavarotti, and pop songs including Dean Martin's hit, "Volare." Raised in Michigan, Caruso attended the world-renowned Interlochen Arts High School, then earned his B.S. in Vocal Performance with an Italian

Italian Foreign Exchange Student

One more Italian student coming to Seattle. Details below if you are interested. A host family is needed for an Italian High School Foreign Exchange student coming to Seattle, for the 2011/12 school year. A potential host family is needed for a boy who is very active and sporty, he is excited to try new things, and enjoys soccer, tennis and Gymnastics, and likes to spend time with his younger sister. He can't wait to meet his new American family. Students come with good English skills, full health insurance and their own personal spending money, and mainly the desire to be a member of an American family. We ask our families to provide a bed (shared room is okay with similar age range) and meals eaten with the family. Host families do not need to have teenagers of their own; young families as well as empty nesters are excellent high school student hosts this year.   For more information about the students and the program, contact Jamin Henderson at   360-661-0552  or j.henderson3

Gelsomina’s Story of Caesar Lucchesi - The Lucchesi Story

Image
It is a great new book that just came out last month.   Research into the three generations of the Lucchesi family brought Matson face to face with what days and nights must have been like for her grandmother, an innocent, young girl brought from Italy to a small mining town in Michigan in the 1800s. The scandalous elopement. The building of a family and a business. Intertwined within the story is the growth, not only of the Lucchesi family but also of America—from horse-drawn carriages, to automobiles, to airplanes, and, finally, the information age and computers. http://www.TheLucchesiStory. com Thank you so much, ------- Daryl Daryl Laitila
