Sunday 18 Sauk Mt.   4.2 miles R/T,1190 feet elevation gain,5537feet highest point.Moderate hike Enjoy amazing views of the Sauk and Skagit river basins, and that's just from the trailhead parking lot! From the summit of this former fire lookout the views are beyond amazing. Appointment at 10:00 at the parking lot,15 min. waiting time Northwest Forest Pass is required,dogs allowed Direction: From Burlington (exit 230 on I-5), head east on the North Cascades Highway (State Route 20) for 36.5 miles to the Rockport State Park boundary at milepost 96 (7 miles east of Concrete and 1.5 miles west of the junction with SR 530). Turn left onto Forest Road 1030 (signed "Sauk Mountain Road"). Follow this steep road for 7.5 miles to a fork. Bear right and continue 0.25 mile to the trailhead (elev. 4350 ft). Privy available. This is a hike with CAI-PNW but everybody is welcome August 10, 2003 Destination:  Naches Peak Loop Classification:  easy, Distance/Time:  4&1/2 miles RT Elevation gain:  700 feet High point: 6000 feet The snow-free loop trail leaves Tipsoo Lake and meanders through meadows that offer some of the best views of Mount Rainier found anywhere. The route is relatively flat--it rolls up and down but has no ridiculously steep sections and only a few real climbs. Hike to Lake Valhalla

Sunday August 4 Lake Valhalla:  5.8 miles R/T   800 feet elevation gain.    Very  pretty lake with a nice beach. Easy hike Appointment at  at the trail head. 15 min. waiting time Northwest Forest Pass is required Direction :  From Seattle take Highway 2 East. Follow the Highway and turn left onto Smithbrook Road #6700 about 0.6 mile after mile post 68. Gravel road starts immediately. Continue on for 3.1 miles to  Smithbrook Trail  trailhead on the left side of the road.  Bring some mosquitoes repellent.
